In the days of the Calvary and Indian wars,a masacure happened on these hills.It is said that the spirits of the brave Warriors still haunt these woods.We leave these tokens of tribute to their spirits.The cache is a jar about 5x4 inches.

i was excited to find this cache, hoped some of the items listed in original drop would still be there, specially the BOO&SHU COIN.

we drove uo to COCTAW CREEK PARK


then had to get our bearings straight...had we parked 2 parking spaces in the other direction i never would have had the opportunity to take the beautiful walk and snap some pics of the scenery, and i wouldnt have had the exercize i had either...but hindsight, is 20/20...lol

as you get on the path you come to a small pond...when we approached it there were 2 ducks, male and female right on the bank, i wasnt quick enough to catch them anyclosert than swimming away...

we had fun watching this windmill spin in the wind...was an attractive addition to the scenery


the GPS fianlly homed in on the location and into the woods we all go


shortly there after the CACHE was discovered!

this cache was attached by a string. this ones hanging in the tree. i thought it was an excellent way to hide a CACHE, and i may utilize the idea for our future CACHE.

we took inventory: sadly almost all the ORIGINAL cache was missing, INCLUDING THE LOG BOOK & PEN!!!

we took the coin. wouldnt it be neat to find that cache? 100 all together collected to make one big one....thats a novel idea. we have no clue if the games already been done or not..theres no dtae on the card (or id for a name) to say when the card was placed.

this was one of the best finds of the day! we had a balst getting this one!

i took complete advantage of the opportunity while we had decent light to snap some shots of beutiful things as we scoured the coridinates for each cahe.

in this field, there were scattered in various places these really pretty little purple flowers:

" In 1926, the development of Nicoma Park as a poultry colony began. At the end of 1928 there were 96 residences developed, complete with poultry production facilities. The community and poultry industry flourished for several years, and the activity in and around Nicoma Park was like a whirlwind. The Nicoma Park Cooperative building was built to process, package and ship the eggs as far east as New York and west to California. Several feed stores did a thriving business as the industry continued growing and the area around the town began to develop.

In the 1930's the poultry industry met a disaster as a California wholesaler shipped a truck load of diseased chickens to the community and seemingly overnight, the disease had spread throughout the town, destroying the poultry industry and crushing the hopes and dreams of the colonists. The industry never recovered as the colonists had put their life's savings into their business and the Great Depression had not dissipated enough to allow them a quick recovery.

The town began to flourish again in the 1940's as construction of Tinker Air Force Base began, providing employment for hundreds of residents. Chicken houses were remodeled into apartments to make up for the lack of housing. Two of these “chicken house” apartments are still in use today. A large number of the 96 original homes are still around town and several chicken houses are still in use as storage units, garages or other uses.

this was undoubtably not going to have been an easy find WITHOUT a GPS UNIT (i bought right before this find)

this littel trasure was somewhat in the woods, off a trail, and the only clue: it was by a log...
well...there were ALOT of logs!!! WHICH one was the kicker, but luckily because we had a GPS unit in hand the aproximation of the "treasure" A LOT easier to locate...



it had rained this morning and the ground was fairly muddy in alot of areas. but that didnt hinder our spirits to locate this CACHE.

within minutes of an aproximation, "Cra" had found it..."Dan" and myself ("Mic") turned around and went to see...

half the fun IS in the discovery of the CACHE itself, as well as its contents.

this wasnt a jug covered in cammo tape, this was an "OFFICIAL GEOCACHING BOX". green like the leaves and brush surrounding it.



was cleaverly hidden. a good discovery in my honest oppinion.

took inventory of contents at the time:

* 3 plastic fame CHICKENS
* 1 "FREESTLY" beanie bean
* 1 PLASTIC SOLDIER
* SONIC magnet man
* PLASTIC PLOAR BEAR

walked out of the woods, and headed to our next destination...FOOD!!

this is really an excellent way to share family time, alot of CACHES ARE IN the woods, but not ALL, some are simply hidden off walking trails in parks and such..

its a fun time to have with family, and the CACHE finds are always a treat for kids.

were having a blast!

OPTIMIST PARK GEOCACHING 2ND ATTEMPT--SUCESS!!! ·

we had decided after church today to go GEOCAHING again, because we feel its really an excellent way to spend some quality time with eachother, search for "treasure" (who doesnt like a good hunt to find some trinkets?) and we only have so many weekends we can actually acomplish this task, when the "Cra" of cramicdan works 6 days of every month, and has chosen to only take one free saturday each month to spend with family.

it just so happened that he has MEORIAL DAY off (tomarrow) and thats a BONUS to the family.

so, i ("mic" of cramicdan) had already printed up some sheets to go by to attempt to locate 7 caches today IF time alotted for that...

we doused ourselves in DEEP WOODS OFF and headed out for the 1st find.

the 1st one i wanted to hit was that pesky OPTIMIST park cache that seemed to have eluded us 2 weeks prior...


WITHOUT a GPS UNIT (just using manual thinking and logic) we managed to get strasight to it..ok, maybe not STRAIGHT, but we DID find the cache (THANK GOODNESS i was getting extreemly frustrated!)



"cra" found it, and told myself and "dan" he had located it, we were way off about 100 feet away..lol

so, we followed "Cra" and he showed us the location

i took a pic of the "JUG"


and we looked inside to see the contents...

this was all remembered, not written down so i know theres a few small items i missed getting an image of to remember

we signed the LogBook

and felt extreemly victorious over our find!!!

there were several pretty flowers growing in the vicinity of the cache, i took advantage of taking pics, as i thought they were rather pretty



and naturally we did come out, AGAIN with ticks, but id have to say, far less this time than last...thank you OFF for having DEET!!

1ST CACHE-OPTIMIST PARK

i had signed us all up as a family and creativly came up with the ID we could all use to GEOCACHE with (CraMicDan) and went to the page on GEOCACHING.com where you look for local caches via your zipcode.

and came up with a list of several within 100 miles of us (57 pages worth) all starting with the closest (within a mile) of us.

the first was one at a small park: OPTIMIST PARK


took the cordinantes, and clicked the map to get an idea of WHERE this park was located, as we had never been to it before.


we were (and are) at a slight disacvantage because were going on ESTMATED locations for these caches, as we currently DO NOT own a GPS device.

so we knew it was going to be a hot pr miss to find this thing.

hints on the page were:
By the base of a small tree.
Follow the trail in.

we were looking for a "JUG" coverd in "AMMO/CAMMO" tape.

but reading other cachers who have already found the cache, it was unknown weather there was still a "trail" to be discoverd to follow.

we looked by every base of every small tree that was there in the park, then we went and looked at the surrounding areas in the brush and thickets and wooded areas, to even find a small trail in the very back upper left hand corner that led to a small opening...it seemed PERFECT for a cache to be hidden.







we were unsucessfull in the attempt to locate the cache at this small park.

but we DID find something of interest to us all as a family...some small field mice!!
we cought 2 of them, a black one and a spotted one...we saw there were 2 adults and another small field mouse, but we were unable to catch them...









i sent an email to to owner of this cache, explaining the lack of ability to locate the cache, they said they would check on it and get back to me.

it apeears to be tick season as well, one member of the party was covered in them, i luckily only had 1 on my entire body, but then i DIDNT go deep INTO any wooded areas either.

i am now more than ever seriously interested in finding THIS cache! its almost a quest to me to locate it. just to see WHATS in it, and have it logged onto the GEOCHACHING.com account as a legitimate find.

upon searching other areas from the list i noted there was ANOTHER OPTIMIST park (found it odd that there would be 2 of the same named park in the same area), roads didnt match for the locations of either caches, and the other one has 2 caches to find around it..

for those NEW to geocaching, be warned: ALWAYS ASSUME TO WEAR CLOTHING THAT WILL KEEP YOU SAFGE AND OUT OF HARMS WAY...in the oklahoma area, wear covering when in the woods, and a cap, long socks, pants, and alot of MOSQUITO & TICK REPELANT OFF SPRAY!!!!
